Study investigator

A study investigator (or principal investigator (PI)), is a physician who leads a study at a particular site. The primary responsibility is to oversee and conduct the study in accordance with the CPSP, applicable regulations, and ethical guidelines. For IVD products, studies are often initiated by a sponsor often the manufacturer) and the investigator is situated at the study site where patients are enrolled and samples are collected. In some other cases, a study can be also planned and initiated by the investigator (Investigator-initiated trials).
